ANZ Shard, Martin Place Sydney

In March 2016, we were thrilled to complete the design and construction of the ANZ Shard – a spectacular glass sculpture fronting the bank’s new flagship branch. The Shard is a three-dimensional tapered triangle measuring an impressive three storeys. Not only is the sculpture an iconic brand element, it is also a celebration of ANZ’s return to its former NSW headquarters in the heart of Sydney’s CBD.

Opalescent was responsible for the design, engineering, construction and installation of the Shard, together with all lighting components; while the glazing system was manufactured by Cooling Brothers Glass Company and made of ImagInk Digital Ceramic Printed Glass using the Vanceva Colour System. The Shard is 80% glass, while the rest is marine-grade stainless steel and customised Alucobond aluminium sheeting.

Creating the Shard demanded absolute precision – right down to the millimetre. We had an installation team of 6-12 people at any one time, with each person forming part of a well-oiled machine. The stunning result is testament to the experience, skill and innovation of our dedicated team and collaborators.
